You and your family are encouraged to plan a summer trip to ‘America’s Finest City’, San Diego!

The San Diego Garden Railway Society is excited to host the 2024 West Coast Regional Meet, Saturday August 10th to Thursday August 15th.

The itinerary for the week allows you to visit as many garden railways as you wish (self-guided, no buses) and take advantage of everything San Diego has to offer.

Most garden railroads will be open on two days. They will be grouped by location to make your planning easier. In addition, clinics and operating sessions will be offered by our members.

Registration Cost:

The cost for attendees will be $40 for 1 person and $20 for each additional person in the party. Children aged 12 and younger will be free.

Attractions:

Participants will not only receive a visitors guide describing the garden railroads, but will also get information about other San Diego attractions and places to enjoy.

Don’t miss the Chula Vista Live Steamers scheduled to be open to the public on the weekend of the 10th and 11th for free rides.

Enjoy beautiful beaches and boardwalks. Check out the Point Loma Lighthouse or the historic Hotel Del Coronado.

San Diego is also rich in railroad-related places, museums, scenic gardens and world-class parks. Visit Balboa Park with its famous Model Railroad Museum showcasing many layouts and scales.

For aviation buffs, don’t miss the San Diego Air and Space Museum.

For maritime buffs visit the USS Midway Aircraft Carrier Museum and the Maritime Museum, which has one of the world’s finest collections of historic ships available for public tours.

San Diego is also home to SeaWorld, Legoland and the world-famous San Diego Zoo and the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. Don’t forget the breathtaking Birch Aquarium.

For nightlife, the downtown Gaslamp District is bustling with live music, restaurants and bars. If you enjoy trendy shops and delicious food, stroll pedestrian-friendly Little Italy.

There’s also the very popular LGBTQ+ district of Hillcrest.

And if you’re a fan of craft breweries the 30th Street in the North Park neighborhood is your destination.

There’s truly something for everyone.
